The spokesperson of the Zamfara state chapter of the People’s Democratic party (PDP) Buhari Maijega has expressed optimism that Dauda Lawal would still retain his position as Governor of the state after the rerun election.

Maijega who spoke to Analyzer news on phone stated that Lawal was leading with over 65,000 votes ahead of his opponent of the APC former Governor Bello Mattawalle in the last governorship election results.

Maijega explained that, the total votes to be contested for in the three affected local government areas where the rerun election would be conducted were not up to 100,000.

He added that, it would be very impossible for the APC to score all the votes in the forthcoming re-run election.

Maijega also maintained that, the security challenges would not allow voters to come out en-mass considering the fact that, most of the affected poling units were located in rural areas where most of the people had deserted.

“You see, Governor Dauda Lawal has an advantage over former Governor Bello Mattawalle for many reasons”.

Firstly, he has about 65′ 000 votes ahead of Matawalle”.

“Secondly, he will still win more votes in the re-run election and eventually be declared winner’.

Thirdly, he has the right to go to the Supreme Court to challenge the appeal court’s decision”.

“So, I don’t see any hope for the former Governor to come back”.

“I also want the APC members and supporters to understand that, the rerun election will be conducted in just few poling units of Maradun, Bukkuyum and Birnin Magaji local government areas”.

“So even if the PPD did not go out to campaign, I am very optimistic that, Dr Dauda Lawal will still get additional votes in those three local governments and will eventually defeat his opponent, Bello Mattawalle”.

“I am appealing to our supporters to remain calm. We will by the grace of God retain the state”. Concluded Maijega.
