Ex-VOA Staff Kabiru Usman Fagge Dies At 77

A veteran Journalist and former employee of Voice of America (VOA Hausa Service) Alhaji Kabiru Usman Fagge is dead.

Fagge passed away at the age of 77 in the United States of America following an illness. 

Fagge was born in Fagge in the Kano metropolis on the 12th day of September 1946.

In 1956 he was enrolled at Fagge Primary School in Kano, and in 1969 he completed his secondary education in Kuka Siniya. 

He went to Bichi Teacher Training College where he spent three years, and then graduated from Kano Teacher Training College in 1970, where he obtained a Grade II teaching certificate.

From 1971-74, he worked as a teacher at Tudun Wada Primary School in Kano, then he returned to study at Bayero University under ABU Zaria.

Before joining Voice of America, Fagge worked at NTA Kano in 1976. Prior to that, he worked at the New Nigerian newspaper publishing company and the Nigerian Pilgrims Commission.

Late Kabiru Fagge joined the VOA Hausa service as a presenter and newscaster in June 1989 where he rose to the rank of an Editor in Chief and  retired in June 2014.

Some of his popular programs included Ilmi Garkuwan Dan’adam, (meaning “Education Shields to Humanity”) and “American Press Review” which he presented every week.

He was buried  today Saturday at the Prince George Muslim Association mosque according to Islamic rites.

He was survived by his wife, children, and grandchildren.
