Zamfara police foil bandits’ attack, rescue victim

Police in Zamfara state have foiled an attempt by the bandits to kidnap residents of Damba area in Gusau metropolis.

They also rescued a watchman kidnapped by the bandits.

In a statement, the Public Relations Officer of the state police command ASP Yazid Abubakar said the bandits went to the house of one Kabiru Umar Faruk of Sabon Garin Damba in an attempt to kidnap him..

Yazid went further to explain that, the bandits had succeeded in kidnapping the watchman of the house, Malam Hassan Abdullahi.

They were however pursued by the police as a result of which they abandoned their abductee watchman and ran away for their dear lives.

The statement reads in parts as follows:-

“On 29th December 2023 at about 0130hrs a group of armed men suspected to be abductors armed with dangerous weapons invaded the house of Alhaji Kabiru Umar Faruku a Staff of Zamfara College of Art and Science (ZACAS) Gusau located at Sabon Garin Damba attacked and abducted his watchman Malam Hassan Abdullahi aged 52 yrs”.

“On receiving the information the Divisional Police Officer of Damba Division mobilized a team of detectives for a search and rescue operation where they intercepted the abductors at the outskirts of Sabon Garin Damba”.

“On sighting the police the hoodlums fired the victim in his right hand and took to their heels with a possible gunshots”.

The statement further explained that the victim was rescued and taken to Yariman Bakura Specialist Hospital and was responding to treatment.

ASP Abubakar maintained that the state’s Commissioner of Police, CP Muhammad Shehu Dalijan Commended the effort and timely report from the good people of Sabon Garin Damba that assisted in the rescue of the victim.

 He also urged the good people of the State to inculcate from them.

The police commissioner reiterated that he would continue to take the war against the bandits and other criminal elements in the state until normalcy was restored in the state.
