Governor Nasir Idris of kebbi state said it was the will of Allah that has made him to become the Governor of the state, considering the number of litigations he went through and emerged victorious.
Idris who received some students at the Government House Birnin Kebbi during the International Day of Education 2024 on Thursday said, many forces within the opposition PDP had worked against him in a bid to stop him to become the Governor of the state.
He stressed that, the opposition PDP had tried to block his chance of becoming the Governor simply because he was a mere school headmaster.
Idris stated that, when he was declared winner of the 2023 governorship election, the PDP embarked on legal tussle to make sure that he lost the position.
But as God wanted him to become the Governor, they lost all the cases right from the Election Petition Tribunal to the Supreme Court.
He said, “During the last governorship election conducted in 2023, I had won in 15 out of 21 local governments, which was a clear defeat”.
“I had 75, 378 votes and a clear margin of 45,278 votes but they said that the election was inconclusive”.
“They didn’t know that God has already reserved that position of kebbi Governor to a Headmaster”.
“They said there were 90,000 voters who did not cast their votes.
“So they went to the Tribunal and said they wanted those people to come out and vote, but we know that it was not true”.
“The Tribunal therefore declared the election as inconclusive and allowed for a rerun election”.
“During the return election, the number of voters that came out to vote were 31,210 and out of that number I got over 19,000”.
“You can see how God works. When I was declared winner again, some people said “no, you can’t be a Governor”, as such they took me to the Appeal court where I also defeated them”.
“They finally moved to the Supreme Court just in a bid to stop a headmaster from becoming the Governor of kebbi state but Allah in his infinite mercy still gave me the upper hand”.
“So you see, they did all they could to make sure that, I did not become the Governor, not knowing that, God has already destined it to happen”.
Governor Idris therefore urged PDP supporters to forget about their political differences and join hands with him to move the state forward, since the time for litigation was over.
He said, “I am now calling on them to please come and join hands with me to move the state forward since the time for politicking and litigation are over”.
“They should realize that God gives power to whom he wants and if they still want to continue fighting me or sabotaging my efforts in building new kebbi state, they are directly fighting the Almighty Allah”.
“I have forgiven all my political opponents and I promise to work harder for the development of our dear state”.
The Governor also reaffirmed his ambition to salvage the education sector and assured the students and the teachers that his administration would provide them with an enabling environment for teaching and learning.
He said, “I want to assure both the students and teachers that this is their government”.
“I have been a teacher throughout my life and I know all the difficulties being encountered by teachers.
“I will try to change the narrative during my tenure by the grace of God”.
