Gov. Idris pledges to promote cultural festivals for societal peace

Governor Nasir Idris of kebbi state has promised continue to support cultural festivities in the state towards promoting peace, unity and brotherliness amongst the people of the state.

Special Adviser to Kebbi State Governor on Media and Publicity, Alhaji Yahya Sarki said, the governor made the promise at the launching of a book tittled: “History of Yauri Kingdom from 1411 to 2014 held at the Emir’s palace, Yauri in Kebbi State on Friday.

The launching of the book according to Sarki was part of activities lined-up for 2024 RIGATA Cultural Festivals.

Gov. Idris observed that cultural festivals remained pathway for promoting culture and tradition, apart from strenthening bond of relationships amongst people of divergent interests and beliefs.

He encouraged people to respect traditional institutions being the custodians of culture and tradition.

The Governor tasked those who made pledges to redeem their pledges so that it would serve the purpose it was meant for.

Earlier, the Emir of Yauri, Dr Muhammad Zayyanu-Abdullahi said the Kingdom derived its name from the fifth ruler of the Kingdom by name Yawuri (1505-1538), recalling that it was during the reign of Yawuri that the Kingdom became rich and popular.

He described the presence of different personalities at the launch as a sign of honour to the emirate and appreciated them for finding time to make the occasion colourful.

More than N85 million had been realised during the launch.
