The Federal Government has announced the Upgrade of the Federal Medical Center (FMC) Birnin Kebbi in Kebbi State to a Teaching Hospital.
The was contained in a letter addressed to the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University Birnin Kebbi (FUBK), Professor MZ Umar signed by Dr Tunji Alausa, the Minister of state for Health and Social Welfare.
A copy of the letter was made available to Newsmen in Birnin Kebbi through the Director of information and Public Enlightenment of the institution, Jamilu M. Magaji.
The letter further indicated that the approval of the Upgrade was a testimony to the passion and commitment of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in ensuring that, Nigerians get the best healthcare at an affordable price and to increase much -needed human resources for health in the country.
The letter also conveyed the directive by the minister to the management of the Federal University Birnin Kebbi to engage the management of the Federal Medical Centre hence, to become Federal University Teaching Hospital, Birnin Kebbi to Upgrade their facilities for teaching and research purposes.
In his response to the letter, the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University Birnin Kebbi expressed his delight over the development.
He also expressed the commitment of the University to do all it could to consolidate the gains of the upgrade.
He said a committee has since been inaugurated by the University under Prof Bello Shehu to work out modalities for the immediate implemention of the upgrade.
