A Federal lawmaker representing Kaura-namoda-Birnin Magaji Federal Constituency in Zamfara state, Honorable Aminu Sani Jaji has charged the youths in the country to shun any call for joining a planned nationwide protest slated to hold next month.

Honourable Jaji who was the Guest Speaker  at a public lecture and interactive session organized by the Zamfara State Students Association (ZAMSSA) ABU chapter held on Saturday drew the attention of the students that, the planned nationwide protest would not auger well for the state in particular and the nation in general.

He said “Please don’t allow anyone to use you in the name of the protest”.

“The planned protest  is not in the best interest of our region and the nation in general”.

The lawmaker said he was aware of the hardship being experienced in the country but advised the youths to refrain from participating in any protest which would jeopardize the security arrangements in the northwest zone in particular and the nation in general.

He stressed that the leadership were working round the clock to make things better in the nearest future.

He said, “I acknowledge the hardship being experienced in the country  but our leaders are working round the clock to address it through various interventions”.

“Please shun any calls for protest”.

He commended the students for organizing a public lecture and interactive session, describing the event as timely and educative.

He said, ”I appreciate this unique and colourful invitation, not just because I am from Zamfara state or passionate about good governance, but because the challenges of today necessitate that everyone aligned themselves with the reality of the problems facing our region”.

“Certainly, the situation is alarming, and our demographic concerns required concerted efforts to address Socio-economic development and security in the region and county at large”.

“We must therefore avoid having an unproductive population, which would lead to the total destruction of the region”.

Honourable Jaji however stressed that education was the only weapon to get rid of the challenges.

“Education is the only way to mitigate these challenges”.

The lawmaker who presented a paper on local government autonomy described the local governments as key to unlocking grassroots development, economic growth and improving service delivery.

He said, ”As the closest tier of government to the people, Local Governments hold the key to unlocking grassroots development, economic growth, and improved service delivery”.

Explaining the full meaning of the local government autonomy, Honourable Jaji said “Local, Government autonomy refers to the freedom of local governments to manage their affairs, make decisions, and allocate resources without undue interference from higher tiers of government”.

‘It is about empowering local communities to take ownership of their development, harness local resources, and address unique local needs”.

He enumerated some benefits of the local government autonomy as follows:

Unlocking economic growth and development, improving service delivery and infrastructure, enhancing community participation and engagement as well as fostering accountability and transparency.

Other benefits according to Jaji included addressing local security and conflict resolution.
