Barely nine days to local government elections in Zamfara state, a group called ‘Bungudu Local Government Patriotic Front’ has appealed to appropriate authorities to substitute the chairmanship candidate for Bungudu local government council.
The group urged Governor Dauda Lawal, the PDP and the state Independent Electoral Commission to consider the removal of chairmanship candidate, Nura Umar Abdullahi in the interest of justice and fair play.
In a press conference, the leader of the group, Comrade Abdulkareem Adam Kwatarkwashi said, the PDP chairmanship candidate, Nura Umar Abdullahi has on several occasions been found wanting in the embezzlement of the local government funds and many other financial misconduct, aa such, he was unfit to be a good leader.
According to him, already a petition was written to the office of the state party chairman and the state independent electoral commission ZASIEC on the matter by the group.
“We wish to use this opportunity and call for the removal and substitution of Nura Umar Abdullahi as candidate for the upcoming Local Government election as our chairmanship candidate under the platform of PDP”.
“This is based on Law no. 4 official gazette of Zamfara State Independent Electoral Commission and other matter 2017”. He said
According to him, Section (h) in the gazette provided that any person indicted for embezzlement of funds and accepted by the state government shall not contest the office of the Chairman of any local government.
“You may recall that, various petitions have been written against Nura Umar Abdullahi as (Sole Administrator of Bungudu Local Government) and Governor Dauda Lawal directed DSS to investigate the matter”.
“A report of indictment was sent to him by the DSS against him”.
“We are of the view that after the local government election, the opposition parties will approach the court and compel the DSS to release the report before the court under freedom of information Act”
“Subsequently the court might disqualify Nura Umar Abdullahi and the EFCC/ICPC will ask the court to prosecute our candidate and finally lose Bungudu Local Government council to opposition”.
“We urge Zamfara state Governor Dauda Lawal, leadership of our great party PDP and the state Independent Electoral Commission to substitute Nura Umar Abdullahi with any other candidate to avoid crisis in our great party the PDP in Bungudu Local government”. He added
It could be recalled that, the Zamfara state independent electoral commission ZASIEC has stipulated November 16, for the conduct of local government council elections in the state.
