Kebbi: Victims of FGC Birnin Yauri Abduction get Government Scholarship

Four months after the last batch of abducted female students of Federal Government College, Birnin Yauri regained freedom from twenty-month captivity in the hands of bandits Kebbi State Government has promised sponsoring their tertiary education

Governor Nasir Idris disclosed this while receiving a Turkish organization, Nigeria/TUILP International College, who paid a courtesy visit on him in Birnin Kebbi

The governor said the girls would be offered scholarship to enable them continue with their studies and actualise their dreams in various fields of endeavours.

He said “As a teacher and father I will never let education down because it is the key for any societal growth. As for the female students supporting them will rekindle their dreams and make them forget the trauma they went through while in the hands of bandits. It is also another way of making their parents believe Government has concern in the plight of their children”

Governor Idris pledged to partner with the visiting Turkish organization to develop education, health and youth empowerment, adding that he had been monitoring its activities for a long time and found it to be sincere and upright, therefore he urged the people of the state to support its drive to bring development in areas of its specialization

Earlier, the Group Managing Director, Surat Group of Companies, Mr Yasar Ovenc, assured the governor of their readiness to collaborate with the state government in promoting education, health and youth empowerment.

He requested for the names of the freed students stressing that his Organization would also offer them scholarship, while emphasising that their priority would be on education particularly girl-child education.
