The stakeholders of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Birnin Magaji local government area of Zamfara state have cried out over the imposition of a caretaker Committee chairman of the local government without their approval.

Addressing journalists in Gusau, the stakeholders of the party comprising the 10 ward chairmen led by the state’s financial secretary, Hon. Sani Ibrahim Alti Birnin Magaji accused the chairman of screening committee, Kabiru Moyi of singlehandedly selecting the caretaker Committee chairman.

Honourable Sani Ibrahim stressed that, what happened during the screening and appointment of the caretaker Committee chairman in Birnin Magaji local government was a political blander, lamenting that, it was a one-man-show.

He expressed disgust over the situation, adding that, if the appointment of the caretaker Committee chairman is not reversed, the PDP political future would be jeopardized in the local government.

According to him, all the important positions have been given to the people of Birnin Magaji ward alone, forgetting the remaining nine wards who contributed to the success of the party during the governorship election.

He said, “The position of two commissioners, party youths leader, women leader, financial secretary, local government party chairman and the organizing Secretary are given to the people of Birnin Magaji ward, while the remaining nine wards are left with nothing”.

“For this reason, we think that the position of the caretaker Committee chairman should be given to one of the remaining wards in order to carry everybody along”.

“We should not quickly forget the gigantic contribution of these nine wards which led to the success of Governor Dauda Lawal”.

“I am the financial secretary of state PDP as well as the secretary of the screening committee for the appointment of local government caretaker Committee members and I come from Birnin Magaji town”.

“All these will not stop me from telling the truth and ensuring that this time around we will try to be fair to our people who come from other wards”.

”What Kabiru Moyi did is politically unacceptable because Birnin Magaji people were not the only people that voted for our great party”.

Honourable Sani therefore appealed to Governor Dauda Lawal to intervene in order to save the party from disintegration.

Also speaking, the PDP chairman of Birnin Magaji local government, Sulaiman Muhammad said the appointment of a caretaker committee chairman should not always come from Birnin-Magaji Ward because the trend could cause disunity at the ward level.

He said, To be fair enough, we shall allow the position of local government caretaker Committee chairman to be chosen from the remaining nine political wards”.

“We want to ensure inclusiveness and avoid political marginalization”.

We want to promote unity, peace and progress in our great party,” said Muhammad.
