From El-Yakub Dabai, Birnin Kebbi
The Gubernatorial Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Birnin Kebbi has affirmed the victory of Governor Narir Idris of the APC during the March Governorship general elections which he won with a wide margin.
The PDP Gubernatorial candidate, General Aminu Bande had dragged Governor Idris and his Deputy, Umar Abubakar challenging their eligibility over alleged forged credentials as well as APC and INEC for electoral malpractices during the polls.
Delivering judgement, Tribunal Chairman Justice Ofem I Ofem maintained that the Testimonial issued to the Deputy Governor by Sultan Abubakar College was enough evidence the defendant had attended the school contrary to the petition challenging his early academic credentials.
The Judge further stated that the claims Governor Idris did not resign his appointment thirty days before joining politics lacked basis pointing out that the case had no substance therefore the petition was thrown out.
The Counsels to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd respondents, Governor Idris, His Deputy and APC, Usman Sulaiman SAN and Yahaya Abubakar SAN expressed satisfaction with the judgement describing it as victory to the rule of law.
Responding one of the counsels to the petirioners, Barrister Nura Bello said the legal team would study the judgements and take necessary actions by advising the clients to for an appeal or otherwise.
