Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State has on Saturday flagged-off the construction and upgrade of 120 secondary schools across the state valued at N8.9b.

Speaking at the ceremony held at Bubuche in Augie Local Government Area, the governor said the gesture was aimed at repositioning the education sector in the state to meet up with the global standard.

He explained that the programme, which was under the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) project in incollaboration with the world Bank and Dominat Engineering Limited was designed to promote education sector through the provision of conducive learning environment for children, especially the girl child.

“This flag-off will include the constitution of new schools programme designed to upgrade 120 schools from primary school to junior secondary and junior secondary to senior secondary schools under AGILE due to the grants given to schools in the state” he added.

He further stated that education was a priority and good education for the girl-child remained Government’s guarded and guided obligation that must be promoted and sustained at all cost, noting that AGILE project had increased girl-child school enrolment by 40%.

Giving the breaking down of the beneficiaries, the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Yakubu Bala Tafida said the gesture would reach all the 21 Local Government Areas of the state towards giving the girl-child sound education.

Responding, the State Projects Coordinator, Aliyu Mohammed-Birnin-Kebbi restated his readiness to support the state in upgrading some schools.
