Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara state finally launched the 2960 members of the State Community Protection Guards set up by his administration to tackle the insecurity challenges affecting the state.
Speaking during the launching of the security guards in a colourful ceremony in Gusau town on Wednesday, Governor Lawal said, his administration was poised to bring an end to banditry activities in the state.
He charged members of the protection guard to discharge their duties diligently to ensure the success of the program.
Governor Lawal promised to provide them with all the necessary logistics support they needed in the discharge of their duties.
Speaking earlier, the Governor Dikko Radda of katsina state said the northwest zone would collectively come together to end banditry in the zone.
Radda said, the Governors of Kebbi, Sokoto, Zamfara, Kaduna, katsina, Kano and Jigawa would form a formidable force to effectively tackle insecurity.
He maintained that, the affected seven states would come out with one security outfit that would work side by side with the conventional security personnel to make sure that the bandits were wiped out of the zone.
He said, “As the issue of banditry is increasing by the day, we the Governors of the affected states in northwest zone will come together to fight the marauding bandits”.
“It is high time we come together to find a lasting solution to banditry which has claimed several lives, while properties worth billions of Naira were destroyed”.
“I am happy we are here in Zamfara state today for the launching of the state’s community protection guards and I am quite sure the remaining states would soon join”.
Five Governors of Sokoto, kebbi, Kano, katsina and Jigawa were in Gusau town to witness the commissioning of Zamfara state community protection guards.
The Deputy Governor of kaduna state, Dr. Hadiza Balarabe also attended the occasion on behalf of kaduna state Governor.
