The United Nation Children Fund Country Director, Mrs Christiana Munduate has charged Kebbi State Government and other donor agencies to work round the clock to achieve zero polio case in this year.
The Director was speaking in Birnin Kebbi while handing over a facility named “Polio Emegwncy Operations Centre” aimed at addressing the challenges of vaccine preventable and other child killer diseases, besides collecting and storing progress reports about polio immunization for prompt.
Mrs Munduete however urged relevant authorities responsible for manning the facility to provide adequate funding and qualified and experienced staff in order to achieve the set objective of eliminating polio in the society
Governor Nasir Idris, represented by the Head of Service, Sufyanu Garba Bena, at the occasion pledged Government’s continued support for counterpart funding in the healthcare sector in order to attain the goals of disease free society besides building a better future for the children.
He disclosed that to buttress the commitment of his administration in that regard, hospitals across the state were currently undergoing renovation while state of the art equipment would be provided afterwards and all casual staff in all health facilities would be absorbed into the state civil service for better healthcare delivery.
Also speaking, the Executive Secretary National Primary Healthcare Development Authority, Dr Muyi Aina expressed his satisfaction with the commitment of Kebbi State Government in the area of healthcare delivery and called for better synergy amongst the three tiers of governments in the country for maximum result in the areas of vaccine preventable diseases amongst children.
The UNICEF Country office also donated four new hilux trucks to Kebbi State Primary Healthcare Development Authority to facilitate disease surveillance especially in the hard to reach areas with the sole aim of achieving zero polio case in 2024.
