FG committed to providing enabling environment for wheat farmers

The federal government said it would provide enabling environment to boost wheat farming across the country.

The Chief executive Lake Chad Research institute, Professor Babagana KABIR Jugudun disclosed this in Zaria during the wheat and Barley National Brown field Day.

Professor Jugudun explained that the essence of barley field day was to exchange ideas and find out lasting solution to some challenges encountered during the wheat farming.

The Chief executive officer pointed out that all stakeholders in wheat farming activities were invited to put heads together to boost wheat farming across the country.

He said presently the institute has improved seventeen varieties of seeds like wheat, millets sorghum rice among others.

Professor Jugudun expressed satisfaction over the level of commitment and dedication of Kaduna state to improved wheat farming.

In a welcome address, Kaduna state Governor Senator Uba SANI represented by commissioner for agriculture Alhaji MURTALA Dabo said the Uba SANI administration remained committed to support the institute to achieve its national mandate.

Alhaji Dabo added that about seven clusters were being dedicated for wheat farming which consists of over three thousand hecters of land for irrigation purpose.

In an interview the national president wheat farmers association of Nigeria Alhaji MUSA SHEHU stressed the need for the three tiers of government to desist form mixing farming system with political issue.

He charged wheat farmers to avoid misusing any supportive and subsidized farming program by defaulting to settle their loans.
