Zamfara state government has distributed 80,000 bags of assorted fertilizer to 40,000 farmers across the state free of charge.
Distributing the items in Gusau on Tuesday, Governor Dauda Lawal said the fertilizer was given to farmers free of charge to assist them grow more food in this year’s rainy season farming.
Lawal stressed that, the state government decided to give the fertilizer free to farmers considering the current economic hardship being experienced in the country.
He called on farmers to make the best use of the gesture by applying the fertilizer in their farms and not sell at give away prices.
The Governor stressed that a committee of trusted personalities has been formed by the state government to ensure that the commodity was not diverted.
“I want to use this opportunity to call on those who are given the responsibility of distributing the fertilizer to discharge their duty with fear of God”.
“I will not hesitate to deal with anyone found wanting during the distribution exercise of this free fertilizer”.
“I also want to call on those who benefited from this gesture to make sure that, they apply the commodity in their farms”.
The Governor explained that his administration was doing everything humanly possible to rid the state of banditry in order to enable farmers return to their farms.
He prayed to God to expose all those responsible for the security challenges in the country.
