Zamfara Independent Electoral Commission Gets New Chairman

Zamfara state Governor, Dauda Lawal has approved the appointment of Bala Aliyu Gusau as the new Chairman for the Zamfara State Independent Electoral Commission (ZASIEC).

This is contained in a statement signed by Suleman Ahmad Tudu Senior Special Assistant Media Office of the Secretary to the State Government Friday.

According to the statement, the appointment followed the demise of the former Chairman of the Commission.

A public announcement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Malam Abubakar Mohammad Nakwada said the appointment was subject to the confirmation by the State House of Assembly.

Mr Aliyu obtained two postgraduate certificates in leadership and development from Galliee College Israel and Kansas State University, USA.

He holds B.Sc Ed (Economics) from Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto after his NCE.

Bala Aliyu is a seasoned civil servant who rose through the ranks to the Director in the State Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning and later joined the federal civil service.

He served in different capacities at the federal level including the National Television Authority where he held the position of a Zonal Director (Sokoto, Kebbi, Zamfara) and Director Special Duties, NTA Headquarters, Abuja.

He also served as the Permanent Member, Zamfara State Universal Basic Education Board before this appointment.

Governor Lawal urged the new ZASIEC chairman to bring his wealth of experience to bear in driving the ZASIEC’s vision for conducting free, fair and credible local government elections in the state.
