Zamfara Health Commissioner Calls For Urgent Action To Address Critical Health Challenges

The Zamfara State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Nafisa Muhammad Maradun, has called for urgent action to address critical health challenges facing the state.

Dr. Maradun outlined a six-point plan to revitalize the healthcare system, emphasizing strategic stakeholder engagement, a comprehensive assessment of existing health system gaps, immediate action to improve service delivery across the state, robust health awareness campaigns to educate the public, rigorous monitoring and evaluation of all health programs, and a concerted effort to build the capacity of healthcare providers at all levels.

“This is not merely a discussion, this is a call to action, the health of Zamfara depends on our collective will to translate our commitments into concrete and tangible results,” the Commissioner said.

The World Health Organization State Coordinator, Dr. Raji, commended the state government for convening health partners to review 2024 progress and strategize for implementing the 2025 AOP that was developed using the Sector Wide Aproach.

He emphasized the alignment of this review meeting with partners to ensure the implementation of the plan follows the “One Plan, One Budget, One Report, and One Conversation” SWAp way which will prevent duplication of efforts by partners and ensure maximising the use of available resources in the state.

Dr. Raji further stressed the importance of reactivating the State Monitoring and Evaluation working group to enhance data quality and evidence-based decision-making within the health sector.

In his remarks, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health, Malam Bashiru Surajo Gusau, urged all partners to prioritize data accuracy and integrity.

He emphasized the crucial role of well-trained data handlers in enabling effective planning, implementation, and evaluation of health programs within the state.

Malam Bashir highlighted the Partners Forum as a valuable platform for achieving these collective goals.
