Bandits have abducted 55 members of the Nigeria Cellphone Sellers and Repairers Association, Zamfara state chapter, along Sokoto-Gusau road.
Addressing Journalists in Gusau on Sunday, the Secretary of the association, Ashiru Shua’ibu said, the affected members were coming back from a wedding ceremony in Tambuwal town of Sokoto state when they were kidnapped and taken to the forest by the bandits.
Shua’ibu said, the affected persons were in two vehicles when they were stopped by the bandits between Tureta town in Sokoto state and Bakura town in Zamfara and later taken to the forest.
“They boarded two buses from Tambuwal immediately after the wedding ceremony and headed to Gusau”.
“But unfortunately they were stopped and kidnapped by the bandits between Tureta town in Sokoto and Bakura in Zamfara state”.
Shua’ibu however explained that, 25 members have later escaped, while the remaining 30 were still in captivity.
He appealed to both the Zamfara state and the security agents to come to the aid of their members and rescue them from the bandits’ camp.
Frantic efforts were made to speak with both the state’s commissioner for security DIG Mamman Tsafe (rtd) and the Public Relations Officer of the state police command, SP Mohammed Shehu but none of them responded to phone calls.
