Zamfara govt to expend N700 million on construction of bridges through direct labour

Zamfara state government would expend the sum of N700 million to construct five broken bridges and one access road in five local government areas of the state.

This was disclosed by the commissioner for Rural Development and cooperatives, Alhaji Abdullahi Mohammed Gurbin-Bore while answering questions from journalists in Gusau on Friday.

The affected bridges, according to him, are two bridges at Dansadau in Maru local government; one bridge at Gayari village in Gummi local government and another bridge at Gurusu in Bukkuyum local government.

The rest are one bridge at Ruwan Gora in Ruwan Gora village under Talata Mafara local government and a 500-metre inaccessible road at one brigade cantonment, Gusau.

He said, “As you are all aware, we are in August and as usual, here in the North we are in rainy season”.

“We received a lot of reports on broken down bridges, culverts and what have you”.

“The Governor has approved the construction of these broken down bridges as well as the construction of a 500-metre inaccessible road at one brigade cantonment, Gusau”.

The commissioner said N700 millio has already been approved and work would commence next Monday.

He said, “His Excellency, Dr Bello Mohammed Matawalle has instructed the ministry of finance to release the funds to our ministry”. 

“The funds have been released to us  and we will Insha Allah mobilise to the sites by Saturday and we will commence work next Monday”.

He assured that, his ministry would do everything possible to finish the work in good time so as to ease the transportation problem being faced by the affected communities.

The commissioner stressed that, his ministry would judiciously use the funds to achieve the desired results.
