Twenty six people were said to have lost their lives in a boat mishap when they were trying to escape bandits attack in Birnin-waje village of Bukkuyum local government area of Zamfara state.
An indigene of the village who gave his name as Musa Sani told Analyzer news that, the incident happened when the people of the village who were attacked by bandits last Wednesday night were trying to escape in a boat.
He maitained that, as they were in the river, the bandits arrived at the scene and opened fire, as a result of which the boat capsized, killing 26 people .
“The victims who were mostly women and children were in a boat trying to escape the bandits attack but unfortunately the boat capsized, killing 21 children and five women”.
“As I am talking to you now, we have recovered their dead bodies and we will soon bury them”.
Sani further explained that the bandits have also kidnapped 27 people in surrounding villages of Rugaje, Danzamau and Maikulki.
”They kidnapped 12 in Rugaje, nine in Danzamau and six in Maikulki”.
Musa called on the security agents to come to their rescue, concluding that, “there are no security agents in the whole area”.
Our Reporter has made efforts to get comment from the state police command SP Mohammed Shehu but he did not pick his phone after several attempts.
