The Zamfara state chapter of the People’s Democratic party (PDP) has called on the Artorney General of the federation, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), DG State security services and Inspector General of police to call their men to order and stop collaborating with Zamfara APC led government in persecuting and prosecuting PPD members in the state.

Addressing a press conference, the acting chairman of the party, Alhaji Muktar Lugga said, he perceived the security agents and the judiciary as working with Zamfara state government to deny the PDP of its political right to freely interact with the electorate.

Lugga also appealed to international communities and the Federal Government under the leadership of president Muhammadu Buhari to intervene into the matter for peace to strive, stressing that democracy is currently under threat in Zamfara state.

He stressed that as law-abiding party, PDP would continue to respect the rules of law and avoid anything capable of jeopardizing the security of the state.

“As law abiding party in Zamfara state, we are also calling on our supporters to remain calm and law abiding citizens as the the leadership is doing everything humanly possible to overcome the situations”.

He expressed displeasure over the arrest of some prominent PDP members,  describing it as unconstitutional.

Lugga particularly described the arrest of senatorial candidate of Zamfara central of the party and former minister of information, Alhaji Ikra Aliyu Bilbis who was arraigned before the court on the allegation of sponsoring political thugs to destroy APC billboards in the state capital.

He lamented the stringent conditions placed by the court for the bail of the former Minister as unconstitutional and undemocratic.

Hon. Lugga also lamented the arrest and imprisonment of former Ambassador to Guinea Conarcri Mairiga Muhammad as uncalled for.

“The former ambassador has been in prison for over a month all in an attempt to muzzle PDP in the state in addition to several threats by the APC led administration of Governor Bello Mohammed Matawalle in collaboration with some security agencies”.

“I want to clearly state that the democracy is being threatened in Zamfara state by the action of the state government with the connivance of some security agencies”. Concluded Lugga.
