Anti-thuggery committee arrests LG council’s secretary, nine others for holding dangerous weapons during rally

A local government Secretary for Tsafe local government area of Zamfara state and nine other persons were arrested by the state Anti Thuggery Committee for allegedly carrying dangerous weapons during the APC rally in Gusau town, the state capital.

Addressing Journalists in Gusau, the chairman of the state Anti Thuggery Committee, Hon. Bello Bakyasuwa said, the local government Secretary, Aminu Lawal and the nine other persons were arrested near Government House Gusau with the weapons during an APC youths campaign rally.

He maitained that a one-million man rally was organized by APC youths in Gusau town in honour of Governor Bello Matawalle when the arrested persons wanted to use the occasion to cause confusion.

Bakyasuwa said, “You are all aware that, a one-million man rally was organized by the APC youths in support of Governor Bello Mattawalle’s second term ambition which took place on Wednesday in Gusau”.

“We were at the venue to monitor the rally in order to make sure that nobody was carrying weapons as directed by the state government”.

“To our utmost dismay, the whole local government council’s secretary was involved in thuggery activities”.

Bakyasuwa stressed that some of the suspects were arrested for attacking the personnel of the Anti Thuggery Committee.

“As I am speaking now, our two female personnel injured by the thugs are currently receiving treatment at Yariman Bakura Specialist Hospital, Gusau”.

He maintained that the committee was existing on the executive order No. 2 of Zamfara state that gave it mandate to fight any act of political thuggery, drug abuse and other crimes in the state.

Bakyasuwa stressed that, the committee was apolitical, adding that, “Nobody would be allowed to cause confusion during political activities no matter the political party he belonged to.

“We are apolitical and as you can see, all the 10 people we have arrested are APC supporters”.

He called on to politicians in the state to comply with the government’s directives and avoid engaging youths into political thuggery in the name of politics.

He also called on the youths to shun thuggery and look for something else for survival instead of allowing themselves to be used and later dumped by politicians.
