The federal government is targeting additional 23,991 youths for N-Skills training on 11 trades across the country.
Hajiya Sadiya Umar Farouq, Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development disclosed this at the closing ceremony of a 6 weeks training in the National Institute for Transport Technology (NITT), Zaria.
She said the 11 trades are Auto-mechanic, Leather works and Shoe making, Smart Devices, Welding and Fabrication, Aluminum Assembly and Fabrication.
Others are Carpentry, Plumbing and Piping, Electrical Installations, Agency Banking, Tailoring and Embroidery, Baking and Cosmetology, Fish Farming and Jewelry-Making and Wire Works.
She said the ministry has completed a six weeks In-Center Training of the N-Skills (Pilot 2) Programme for the North-Western geopolitical Zone as part of efforts to lift 100 million Nigerians out of poverty.
The Minister who was represented by a Director in charge of General Services in the ministry, Yakubu John said a total of 329 youths from Kano state while in Zaria 344 were trained on auto-mechanic, vulcanizing, aluminum assembly and fabrication, in a bid to make them self reliant.
Faruq said that the beneficiaries would be attached directly to Certified Master Craft Persons in the trade for a six months apprenticeship.
She added that during the six-month attachment period, their performances will be assessed and examined by the NBTE and NABTEB, which will lead to the issuance of NBTE certificate to those that meet the minimum requirements.
Earlier, the Training Manager, Abubakar Imrana said the center has trained
344 youths, 168 for ALM, 117 for ATM and 59 for VUL. All of which will be given their certificates and starter packs with which they can start their businesses.
Imrana said the programme is divided into two phases-the in-center training(which was just completed), and the apprenticeship training(which will hold for a period of six months after the in-center training).
“The in-center training held for the period of six(6)weeks, during which the beneficiaries(trainees) were trained on various skills, such as the life skills,
“This center received and trained beneficiaries from all the north-western states Jigawa, Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Sokoto and Zamfara, for the period of six weeks from October-December.
