Confusion in Zaria, as residents reject old Naira notes

Barely few days to the expiration of the deadline for collection of old Naira notes, traders in Zaria and environs have stopped collecting old Naira notes.

Our correspondent in Zaria reported that petty traders in some markets businesses centers and shops are expressing fear of collecting the old Naira notes.

Investigation revealed that most Point of Sales (POS) centres have closed as they complained that customers usually deposit old Naira notes.

The POS providers interviewed decried that the new Naira notes were scarce even in the banks.

Many buyers of necessary daily consumption commodities expressed their sadness over the rejection of old Naira notes within the communities.

Some people interviewed stressed the need for CBN to extend the period in order to allow rural individual to deposit the old Naira notes at the bank.

They called on the Federal government , National Assembly and Directorate of security service DSS to checkmate the activities of commercial banks since the pronouncements of changing new Naira notes by the CBN.

Meanwhile, banks in Zaria were filled up with customers trying to deposit the old Naira notes before the deadline.
