Bandits kill, DPO, police personnel, civilian in Zamfara

Bandits have attacked Maru town, the headquarters of Maru local government area of Zamfara state, killing a Divisional Police Officer, one other police personnel and a civilian.

An indigene of the town who gave his name as Shehu  Amadu told Analyzer news that the bandits who were in large number stormed the town with the intention of abducting the residents of the area.

Amadu said, the DPO Kazeem Raheem and two other policemen who went out to confront the bandits were shot and killed on the process.

Amadu said, ”The bandits who were in large number stormed into our town in the night last Saturday in order to abduct the people”.

“Many of us took to our heels and run into the bush to escape the abduction”.

“On getting the information of the attack, the Divisional Police Officer of the Local Government, Kazeem Raheem, mobilized his men and some the vigilantes in order to chase away the bandits”.

“Unfortunately, the DPO, one police sergeant called Rabiu Bagobiri and one vigilante member Shehu Chaku were killed on the spot”.


Amadu further told Analyzer news that the bandits were able to abduct some people of the town.

Efforts to get comments from the spokesperson of the state police command SP Mohammed Shehu failed as his lines were not going at the time of filing in this report.
