The Regional technical officer, Kaduna Electric Distribution Company (KAEDCO) Yahaya Yusuf has appealed to customers in Zamfara state to bear with the low power supply currently being experienced in the state, stressing that it was a national phenomenon.

Speaking to Analyzer news in Gusau on Friday, Yusuf said, the entire nation was experiencing epileptic power supply since the beginning of March this year year.

He attributed the problem to the decrease in power supply from the national grid.

According to him, there was adequate supply of energy by the national grid from September 2022 to February this year where the customers enjoyed almost 24 hours of power supply.

Yusuf lamented that the power supply has reduced drastically from March this year to date following the inability of the national grid to supply enough megawatts to the state.

“We are not getting enough megawatts from the national grid at the moment, that is why we cannot distribute electricity to the satisfaction of our teeming customers in the state”.

“You cannot distribute what you don’t have. So I want our esteemed customers to take note of this”. Said Yusuf.

He debunked the rumors that the state office of Kaduna Electric Distribution Company (KAEDCO) used to allocate certain percentage of power supply to some individuals in the state, stressing that, “We cannot do this as we are closely being monitored by the National Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC)”.

He however expressed worries over the non payment of electricity bills by the customers in the state which according to him has contributed immensely to the reduction in the power supply from the national grid.

He explained that, Zamfara state used to get N600 million electricity from the national grid on monthly basis, lamenting however that, only N100 million was generated monthly from the consumers.

He therefore called on the customers to be paying their bills promptly to enable the Kaduna Electric Distribution Company ( KAEDCO) serve them better.

He appealed to customers to also look after their transformers and other electricity installations due to influx of vandals who were out to steal electricity equipment.

Yusuf also advised customers to henceforth stop contributing money to repair their faulty transformers, stressing that, it was the responsibility of the KAEDCO to make such repairs.

“I am calling on our customers to please stop contributing money in the name of transformer repairs”.

“Just pay your bills and report any fault to the KAEDCO office nearest to you. It is our responsibility to ensure that everything is working well”. Concluded Yusuf.

Recalled that, some consumers in Zamfara state have last week accused Kaduna Electric Distribution Company (KAEDCO) of deliberately refusing to provide electricity to the state during the Holy month of Ramadan.
