Supplementary election: Ex-minister Bilbis defeats Senator Marafa

The former Minister of information, Alhaji Ikra Aliyu Bilbis of the People’s Democratic party (PDP) has been declared winner of the Zamfara central senatorial zone supplementary election held last Saturday.

Bilbis scored a total of 102,866 votes to defeat his closest rival, Kabiru Garba Marafa of the All Progressive Congress (APC) who scored 91,216 votes.

Announcing the result, the returning officer of the zone, Professor Kabiru Abdullahi said, Ikra was declared winner having satisfied the requirements of the law.

He said, “I Professor Kabiru Abdullahi, hereby certify that, I am the returning officer for 2023 Zamfara central senatorial district election held on 15th day of April 2023”.

The election was contested and the candidates received the following votes”.

“Marafa Kabiru Garba of the APC scored 91,216 and Aliyu Ikra Bilbis of the PDP scored 102,866 votes”.

“That, Aliyu Ikra Bilbis of the PDP, having satisfied the requirements of the law is hereby declared winner and is returned elected”.

Similarly, the PDP candidates were declared winners of the house of representatives supplementary election held in Gusau/Tsafe and Gummi/Bukkuyum Federal constituencies respectively.

In Gusau/Tsafe, Kabiru Amadu Maipalace of the PDP scored 63,589 votes to defeat the former Speaker of the state House of Assembly Sanusi Garba Rikiji of the APC who got 52,495 votes.

In Gummi/Bukkuyum Federal constituency, Engineer Suleiman Abubakar Gummi of the PDP scored 35,664 votes and defeated Ahmed Mohammed of the APC who scored 35,058 votes.
