The National Convener of Youth Movement for Good Governance (YMGG) a pro democracy and rule of law Advocate,  Aminu Haruna Maipampo has called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to launch a comprehensive probe into an alleged scandalous payment of more than N20bn to a non existing consultancy firm by the Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL) Mr. Kolo Mele Kyari.

Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL) Mr. Kolo Mele Kyari.

In a statement, Maipampo said, it was very unfortunate that the NNPCL under Mr. Kyari’s stewardship has manipulated, abused and misused the fuel Subsidy removal plans by deliberately causing untold hardships on innocent Nigerians through fuel scarcity.

Maipampo lamented that the fuel scarcity which lasted for months has forced many Nigerians to buy fuel for up to N700 per litre even when the Federal Government was spending billions of Naira in the name of subsidy.

He said, “We wish to call on President Buhari to immediately direct the NNPCL GCEO to step aside  as the GCEO of NNPCL so as to allow for thorough probe and investigation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and  relevant authorities into the alleged scandal”.

It will be recalled that few months ago, in his bid to cover up his numerous scandals, Mr. Kyari used some scrupulous persons to go on media to frame up one of the Principal witnesses of his scandals, Mr. Marcos Ramirez by alleging that Mr. Marcos was a fugitive declared wanted by the Interpol and US securities over an illegal sales of more than 40 million barrels per day of the crude oil by the NNPCL.

In another development, it was reported that the duo of the GCEO Mr. Kyari and the Chief Financial Officer of the NNPCL Mr. Umar Ajiya have allegedly paid themselves and other officials gratuities running into billions of naira even while they were still in active service.

Inquiries into the operation of the NNPCL has shown that Mr. Kyari and Mr. Ajiya have turned the NNPCL into their personal estates.

We therefore call on President Buhari to set up a panel of enquiry of reputable persons to probe into Mr. Kyari’s stewardship at the NNPCL.

Meanwhile, independent and reliable sources available to us confirmed that the allegations made by Mr. Kyari are false and misleading.

He is only looking for a means of diverting searchlight of the National Assembly and the general public.

At this point, the YMGG wishes to call on Mr. Marcos Ramirez to by all means avail himself and all necessary and relevant documents to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and relevant authorities if the need arises.

“We also wish to notify security agencies  and relevant authorities that we are currently reaching out to other Civil Society Organisations across the country to start preparing for a National Peaceful Protests across the country to press home our request”.

“We wish to also call on President Buhari to see that probes and investigations into these scandal reaches  logical conclusion as it will be one his administration’s achievements as it rounds up in few days to come”.

“Lastly, we assure Mr. Marcos Ramirez of our full support in any way when ever he will be required to appear before the  EFCC or any other relevant authorities to give his ordeal on the alleged scandal”.
