The Coalition of National Election Observers have commended the Kebbi State Independent Electoral Commission for conducting a hitch free local government election conducted over the weekend.
Briefing newsmen after the election on behalf of the Observers, Comrade Nuhu Sani Lere said they were contented with the conduct of the election as it gave equal opportunity to 18 political parties who participated in polls.
Lere said, “Gentlemen of the press, we are here before you this evening to brief you about the just concluded local government election which took place yesterday Saturday 5th of February, 2022 in Kebbi State”.
“Let me start by commending the Kebbi State Independent Electoral Commission (KESIEC) for providing enabling environment for the smooth conduct of local government election which gave equal opportunity to 18 political parties to participate in polls”.
“Based on our visit to monitor and observe the election process across the state, I wish to seize this opportunity to commend all stakeholders particularly the security agencies as well as political parties for the orderly manner in which they conducted themselves during the election”.
‘It is gratifying to say that, the turnout of eligible voters is quiet impressive as women and youth came out en-mass to exercise their civic responsibility without any hindrance”.
The observers have however recommended that, there should be adequate sensitization for all stakeholders on the electioneering process.
They also recommended that adequate training by KESIEC is required on time for ad-hoc staff who will conduct the election.
They added that there was the need for more civil societies and NGOs engagement in the sensitization of the electorate across the state.
The observers concluded that, “We the coalition of National Election Observers adjudged the local government election in Kebbi State as free, fair, transparent and credible with high turnout of voters”.
They called on other states to emulate such credible election conducted in Kebbi State.
Meanwhile, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has won the chairmanship and councillorship positions in all the 21 local government areas of the state.
