The Legacy Newspaper Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Zamfara state, has set up a three- man credentials screening committee to conduct fresh election for the chapel.
At an emergency Congress Meeting held at the chapel’s conference hall, members unanimously resolved, that the former State Treasurer and a one time Director General in the immediate past administration in the state, Comrade Dahiru Samaila Mafara will head the committee.
A one time chairman of the chapel, Comrade Ibrahim Musa Maizare would serve as secretary and the incumbent State Treasurer of NUJ, Comrade Jamilu Sani Tsafe would serve as member.
Addressing members of the chapel prior to the inauguration of the credentials committee, the subtantive chairman of the chapel, Comrade Aliyu Buhari stated that the tenure of the incumbent officials of the chapel had already expired since last June, a reason he said, necessitated for a fresh election to be conducted for new officials to emerge.
He charged the credentials committee to repose the confidence of the members in their credibility and ensure free, fair and acceptable election for the union.
In his acceptance speech shortly after inauguration, the chairman of the credentials committee, Comrade Dahiru Samaila Mafara thanked members of the chapel for finding them worthy of the exercise and pledged to abide by the provisions of NUJ Constitution while discharging their assignment.
The committee was given three weeks within which to conduct the election.
